Stairs? Phoey!

Just so everybody knows--we're in Bellingham, at home now. We drove Dad up, and when we got here he marched up the stairs like nobody's business without assistance. I think the only risk here is that he may be buried under an avalanche of cards from well-wishers. He's got music, cards, magazines, and--when he's ready--wireless internet. Healing in the modern world! I have a few shots of Dad motoring around the hospital--I'll post those when I can. Posted by Martin at August 26, 2004 02:19 PM

Welcome home! Our prayers have been with you and we know that healing increases when we are at home! Many thanks to Martin for the blog. What a talented family you have. Mollie Williams and Gordon Verplank, White Rock, B.C.

Welcome back to Bellingham! This is my first blog experience. What a great vehicle for keeping people posted and for us to give virtually immediate feedback. Especially people like me that are notorious procrastinators when it comes to buying (and mailing)cards. I have enjoyed getting caught up with the family's posts here and want to add my best of wishes on what sounds like a recovery already well underway. I can only imagine how good it must feel to be in such familiar surroundings again. I have long been a fan of tugboats and loved Marilyn's metaphor.

Yes, Donel, the scene does sound idylic for some serious healing. But there's something missing. If you are going to be spending some time letting your body heal then you definitely need more than a ton of cards, wonderful music, great food, and treasured friends standing outside your window yelling up at you.

I have made arrangements for the Bellingham Animal Shelter (where 35 years ago we got two fine Basserds [half Basset-papa and half Shepherd-mama]) puppies to come by tomorrow morning with a selection of six possible adoptees for you to consider. I would suggest taking two as they will be good company for each other and I know you like cleaning cat boxes.

The cats are:
PEPTO, an orange tabby who occasionally has belly problems but is absolutely adorable.
SLINK, a black short hair whose last owner, may she rest in peace, tripped over him one two many times but it wasn't his fault!
BIG CLOP, an interesting cat who enjoys eating or else is pregnant. The Shelter isn't sure about the sex but s/he weighs 37 pounds. May have some Maine Coon Cat in him/her.
VOLDEMORT, an all-white fireball who will grow into a sweet companion I am sure. He does have a few bad habits and the spraying is likely to end once he's neutered.
FIFI, a lovely long-haired Siamese mix whom you may want to get de-clawed and have her teeth filed down a wee bit.
SING-SING, is tortoise-shell and gorgeous. She knows it and demands the best of everything. With Singapore on your mind this next year I thought this cat's name was very auspicious. I don't think there was any other reference intended. She has NO bad habits other than she will only eat fresh crab meat and cream.

Let me know which one/s you pick!

Happy Healing (something a dog will do but a cat, never!)

It's just one WOW after another. Tears come when I read Dani, Martin, Jeni and Marilyn's blog notes....hovering angels sharing their family love with the greater Donel fan club.

This is actually a course in miracles you are presenting, live and in color: "God's Reality Show: How A Family Functions Through Love and Faith", starring the McClellan Clan.

Instantly beamed to a widely assembled audience of believers, prayer constituents, and lost sheep. Imagine your impact on the medical world Donel. Good Job! Love, Jennifer

Dear Donel,

It is obvious that you have many fans named Jennifer (although I claim to have had it the longest of the bunch), therefore you might want to discriminate by assigning a second name to each of us, according to your sense of poetic justice, and inner corn.

I fear you have opened a big blogjam with this ease of communication. What fun. Write on McClellan. Cheers, Orcas Jennifer

Okay, I know this is ALL ABOUT DONEL but can I digress for just a moment to say how much I have laughed reading Jennifer's entries? You have provided many a giggle during the anxious wait. Thank you. And, since I am on the digressing track anyhow, how nice it is to see far flung friends names and good wishes in this blog.....okay, now we can all go back to focussing on our not-so-invalid-anymore invalid again.
