Round 'em up, swim around

Jeni and Dani have been doing such a good job updating that I haven't felt that I needed to add anything--but I didn't want to let another day go by without sending a big shout out to someone who became our close friend over the last few days: A longhorn cowfish named Spike #4. In the waiting room of the ICU there is a fish tank. Anybody who is apt to notice such things can't escape watching Spike #4 motor around the tank. He's quite a personality, and all of us fell for him readily. Sad to think of what happened to Spike #1-#3, but glad to see this chunky guy floating around. If it wasn't such a big tank, I'd be tempted to wheel it up to dad's new room for all to enjoy. Posted by Martin at August 22, 2004 07:17 PM

Hi,
Jane, the boys, and I are in Vancouver (B.C.) tonight and will be passing through Seattle tomorrow on our way to Berkeley for my sabbatical. I realize Don may not be ready for visitors, but perhaps we could stop by and spend a few minutes with you. Let me know. 608-206-6595.

We give thanks to God that Donel is doing well!
Mike says to get a pillow ready for that first sneeze and hold on tight against your incision! Get as much rest as necessary, but be up & walking as soon as they tell you to try... activity with due caution is a must! Our best to you and the family!

Good morning Donel and family,
As I am not big on words most of the time, or at least the right kind of words, it has taken time for me to write. That does not mean you have been far from our thoughts and prayers. In fact, it is almost constant that you are there. We are thankful for the incredible updates and are relieved to hear things are moving along well. We will still be praying everything contiues to move in the right direction. Have a good day healing!

I was talking with Meril last night and asked about Donnell -- I'm glad to find this! We all are praying for your continued progress, and your family's perserverance! Amelia sends these pieces of advice: always get THREE stickers when you get poked instead of the one they'll offer, smile and be cute and you'll go far, and stay away from those neurosurgeons! Good morning! with a prayer that it is better than yesterday...you are feeling less pain? movng a little more? able to enjoy a bit more? getting the help you need when you need it? a bath? a shave?...astounding how things we so take for granted can be so incredibly satisfying after we have gone without 'em...and you've gone without a lot so will have a lot to enjoy coming back, Donel. I sent a message to your address yesterday? that I hope has reached you by now as it wasn't here...it was lovely to tie our prayers into the IN STITCHES quilt yesterday for you and you probably would have been appalled at the amount of conversation centering on you...try to enjoy the center stage...there are so many people in the entertainment jobless lines who would beg to have such top billing! We are all asking each other how Marilyn is faring too and we send her our love as well. God's eye is on the sparrow and I know God watches all of you! Love, J

Good Morning Dear Donel. I think you should stay in the hospital for as long as you can and then make a miraculous recovery. Jeffrey and I have been collecting things to make you laugh/groan....Last night we previewed one of them....Holy Batmania. Soon as you get home I intend to drop a batch of such awful stuff off at your residence. Don't say I didn't warn you. (I am reminded of the time my brother's awful cough was "cured" by a poultice largely consisting of garlic which he had to wear on his feet for 24 hours....I have long held that the fear of the poultice is what did in the cough.) Love you.

Martin, I hope Spike #1-3 had longer lives than Erin's guppies.....I think I am doing something wrong.....now, out of ThingmaBob, SpongeBob, Yo Bob, and BobBob only Thingmabob remains. See if you can glean some professional advice for me. j

Alas poor ThingmaBob.............

listening to it as objectively as I can, I like anna nicole smith it. Second, it was rap, and in entering into a pamela anderson style I knew comparatively litle about, and doing michelle vieth it in a more or less deliberately goofy, off-the-cuff, south beach diet laid-back kind of way, I was able to come at it star wars 3 without my defenses up, without being as critical anna kournikova or judgemental. It didnt have to be sublime - it sailor moon was fun. It didn't have to be profound - it was usher
