Hidden here, in one of Marilyn miniature fairy gardens, is one of 22 Ben & Jerry Cherry Garcia singles. Daughter, Jeni Craswell, took it upon herself to investigate the mystery of why the singles are so scarce in our area. Haggens had them for a time but they aren't part of their regular stock. Nor have we been able to locate them in Bellingham.
So Jeni has contacted Ben & Jerry's marketing, a number of stores, and the Washington state distributor. She found that the only place that had stock was the super Wal-Mart in Marysville. On the way up to Bellingham yesterday, she stopped and bought me what is probably a lifetime supply—twenty-two delicious individual cups with cleverly designed plastic spoons.
I have learned that when Jeni takes on a task she persists until she is successful. It is simply another small blessing and another reason to admire the gifts of our children.
Posted by Donel at April 21, 2005 01:07 PMNot that I'm looking forward to this meal any time soon but I do believe the menu is being set for the Celebration of Life Reception. Hope everyone wants ice cream and strawberry/rhubarb pie! Have you tried the cherry garcia ON the pie yet? My thinking is "why muck up perfectly good rhubarb" but you are being adventurous so I may have to bow to your greater wisdom and experience. xo

Like the cheese in Farmer in the Dell, Cherry Garcia stands alone!
And although I have developed a taste for the aforementioned pie, Marilyn's apple is my all-time favorite, a piece of which constituted my breakfast this morning.
Posted by: Donel McClellan at April 21, 2005 05:39 PMWould you stick around longer if you had more?? Because Martha and I are headed to Seattle with all the kids tomorrow and if the fix could be that easy, then we'll buy them out on the way home!!
Cheers!
Meril
Well, Meril, there no miracle cures . . .and I think Jeni already bought them out. :-)
Posted by: Donel McClellan at April 21, 2005 09:30 PMDonel forgot to mention that it was Marilyn Gorgeous who introduced him to those lovely little individual servings of his favorite ice cream when she graced us with a Greek pizza, a green salad and the little individual ice creams of our choice one evening. What a treat -- and we giggled over the great little ice cream treats that she found at our local Haggens. When I went back, they were gone. I knew we were in good hands when we told Jeni the story of the lost ice cream -- nothing is lost in Jeni's book. If it on the planet, she will find and retrieve it. Once I lost a blue contact in a blue (same color) shag carpet. I was devastated and offered a reward to the kid who (CAREFULLY GUYS) found it. And, who might that have been?
Posted by: Marilyn Mc at April 22, 2005 09:18 AMBut remember -it was all because Mom offered a trip to our favorite ice cream parlor (Farrells) as a reward!
Maybe it's just that I'll do anything that results in ice cream!!
Posted by: Jeni at April 22, 2005 09:47 AMI love it that Marilyn Gorgeous's name and wonderfulness are thus remembered and enshrined!

Okay, what's the deal???? Here in the great state of Texas, we can't get these dandy singles. I guess it is because Houston is the #1 fattest city in the U.S. and we would not want to ruin our chances of losing that title.
As one who grew up in the Church during the Carl Calhoun days, I was so happy to see the Church's website and upon scrolling down found your "Bright Wings" section. Thank you for all you have provided us with your insightfulness, humor, honesty and prayer.
