Family Update

Greetings to all! Here is a quick update on the McClellan household. The whole clan is here: Jeni and her family; Martin and partner Christine; and Charles, James and I, in town for one week from Singapore. We have spent the past few days working on a number of projects (I am writing this to the sound of Jeni ripping up carpeting in mom's study) and tonight Martin is cooking up a mean gumbo dinner. Tomorrow night we are planning a Lunar New Year feast to greet the year of the Rooster. We will also celebrate that today was dad's final day of radiation on his spine, although they will continue to radiate the prostate for another few weeks. Last night, the church threw a wonderful retirement celebration for dad. It was a an evening filled with laughter and gentle roasting of dad's quirks. What was very clear from the evening is the love that surrounds dad in this community and the many ways in which he has connected with people over the years. Once home, all of us sugar-wired from the dessert buffet, we were up for hours reading over the beautiful gift album of letters, and admiring the many cards, poetry, artwork, quilts, and gifts. Wish I could have been there! Don, you and your family have meant so much to me throughout the years. It really hit me how instrumental you were/are to my spirituality and beliefs when I sat and eavesdropped on a session between Tim (my 11 year old) and our pastor when they were working on Tim's God and Family project for boyscouts. I was transported to confirmation class with you and everything I learned way back then. I mentioned in an email to Jeni recently, that what really amazes me about your writings here is your positive outlook and apparent lack of fear. Your faith is so strong. You're an inspiration to me still!!!

Please know that you and the rest of the family are constantly in my prayers.

I LOVE YOU!!!
Kathe :)

Donel and Marilyn,

We cherish your friendship and are sorry that we could not attend Donel's retirement celebration, but you were glad I stayed away with my cold! And Dick was in Seattle at the Flower and Garden Show, so neither of us could attend. We expect to see you both often in the future - at dinners, at church, going out to dinner together, taking a weekend trip together and having a cup of tea or coffee at each others houses - thats what good friends do! See you soon.

another joke to add to your collection...
love, beth

Jesus and Satan were having an on-going argument about who was better on the computer. They had been going at it for days, and frankly God was tired of hearing all the bickering.
Finally fed up, God said, "THAT'S IT! I have had enough. I am going to set up a test that will run for two hours, and from those results, I will judge who does the better job."
So Satan and Jesus sat down at the keyboards and typed away.
They moused.
They faxed.
They e-mailed.
They e-mailed with attachments.
They downloaded.
They did spreadsheets! .
They wrote reports.
They created labels and cards.
They created charts and graphs.
They did some genealogy reports.
They did every job known to man.
Jesus worked with heavenly efficiency and Satan was faster than hell.
Then, ten minutes before their time was up, lightning suddenly flashed across the sky, thunder rolled, rain poured, and, of course, the power went off.
Satan stared at his blank screen and screamed every curseword known in the underworld. Jesus just sighed.
Finally the electricity came back on, and each of them restarted their computers. Satan started searching frantically, screaming: "It's gone! It's all GONE! "I lost everything when the power went out!"
Meanwhile, Jesus quietly started printing out all of his files from the past two hours of work.
Satan observed this and became irate.
"Wait!" he screamed.
"That's not fair! He cheated!
How come he has all his work and I don't have any?"
God just shrugged and said,

JESUS SAVES
