A Walk A Day

The most frequent piece of advice I received before as well as after my surgery was to keep walking, Those who have been through the medical process testify that walking promotes healing. So Marilyn and I have been walking. At first it was with a cane to the end of the block and back. But each day it seemed I could go at least a half block further. Tuesday, Marilyn and I made it around the Lake Padden trail which is 2.6 miles. Walking does feel good and Bellingham has some of the most beautiful trails in any city. The variety is awesome. Here are some favorite walks: Lake Padden Boulevard Park If you have flash, try this 360 degree image of Zaunich Park at Squalicum Harbor Posted by Donel at September 24, 2004 09:18 PM

Greetings to all the McClellans! Dani called me last night and updated me on your family's summer trials and triumphs. This morning, my coffee cup and I were transfixed by this blog, and I thank you for sharing your journeys. Many of my fondest memories are shared with the McClellans: Dani's baby shower at our apartment in New Haven (with Allie, Jeni, Martin, Don and Marilyn plus friends), eating Pepe's pizza with Don and Marilyn, the beautiful views of the water in Bellingham, singing with Charles and Marilyn, hanging out with Ron and Jeni in Prague, and the hundreds of wonderful hours with Charles, Dani and James.
Martin, thank you for your poem. I cried while reading it because Jay and I often say we want to be the McClellans when we grow up--generous, open hearts that make people feel that you belong in their home and family.
I am thinking of you all and am grateful for your healthy progress, Donel.
All my love, Cindy Paces

Good morning Don and Marilyn. What a beautiful view of Zaunich Park. Thank you. We can hardly wait to get up there to see you and let you take us for a walk. We walk every evening around the parks near our home with our Polly. She gets real pushy around 7 pm reminding us that it's time. Yes, it does wonders for you. Keep up the good work.

Love to you both. Anita & Chuck

Donel and family-
I only recently got news of your diagnosis and recovery. I was shocked, but at the same time, uplifted by your strength and determination. I am in Estonia right now, and then off to Morocco in 2 weeks, but my thoughts are with you. Please know that I think of you often, and that you are all in my prayers. I miss you.

Don and Marilyn:

I am picturing you indolently walking . . . TOGETHER.

Hopefully Marilyn is garnering some indolence throughout this as well.

Amy treated Laurie to a "treatment" as the local day spa so we had Great-Grandma in her wheelchair, plus three grandchildren for the day.

We hit five of the orchards on Apple Hill - picked apples, rode ponies, bought pies and fudge, and took everybody for an orchard train-ride. Had to hoist Great-Grandma out of her wheelchair and into the open car but the engineer came back and helped lift her in and out. She smiled her lop-sided (post-stroke) smile.

May the day be a day of indolent joy for you. And tomorrow is Sabbath.
